Exploring Science Together

Lets Talk Science

Let's Talk Science is a charitable organization based in Canada that helps children and teens learn about science, technology, engineering, and math, often called STEM. Since it started in 1993, the group has worked with schools, teachers, and volunteers to bring science learning to classrooms and communities across the country. Their goal is to make science something everyone can understand and enjoy.

Working with Volunteers

One of the special things about Let's Talk Science is how it connects students from universities and colleges with younger students. These volunteers visit schools and community groups to lead activities and experiments. They help kids see how science works in real life. With over 3,500 volunteers from more than 50 schools across Canada, they reach hundreds of thousands of students every year.

Helping Teachers Teach Science

Teachers can find many helpful tools on the Let's Talk Science website. There are lesson plans, background information, and ideas for experiments. These resources are made to fit with what students are learning in school and are available in both English and French. Teachers can use them to make science lessons more interesting and easier to understand.

Special Projects and Activities

Let's Talk Science offers several projects that let students try out real science. One project, called Tomatosphere™, gives students tomato seeds that have been to space or kept in special conditions. Students plant the seeds and see how they grow, learning about space and plant science. Other projects include studying the environment, learning about climate change, and even designing plans for lunar rovers. These activities help students think like scientists and solve problems.

Events and Competitions

The organization also hosts events where students can test their knowledge and skills. The Let's Talk Science Challenge is a competition for students in grades 6 to 8. It includes quizzes and design challenges that encourage teamwork and creativity. High school students can attend symposiums to learn about topics like cancer research, stem cells, and neuroscience. These events let students meet scientists and learn about different science careers.

Reaching More Communities

Let's Talk Science works hard to include students from all parts of Canada, including Indigenous communities and remote areas. Programs like Science Travels send volunteers to northern communities to share science learning. They also offer online resources and virtual visits, so students can participate no matter where they live. By doing this, they make sure more students have the chance to learn about science.

Supporting the Environment

The organization cares about the environment and teaches students how to make a difference. Projects like Clothing4Climate help students learn about how clothing affects the planet. Students explore ways to reduce waste and make better choices. Let's Talk Science also works with other groups to promote sustainability and environmental awareness.

Learning About Careers in Science

On the website, students can read about people who work in science-related jobs. These stories show what it's like to work in different fields and how people got there. By learning about these careers, students can see the many possibilities that science offers and think about what they might want to do in the future.
