Charles X Gustav (Karl X Gustaf) was a descendant of the House of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. On July 10, 1655, he left Sweden to engage in the Second Northern War (1655-1660) which started with the occupation of Dünaburg by the Swedes on July 1, 1655. Eventually his armies occupied most of this European country.
